Hawaii Bound, Or Not.......

My husband and I were supposed to be in Hawaii right now, laying on the beach and eating fresh pineapple. We have been planning a trip to Kauai for our 10th anniversary, the plane tickets were bought, the hotel reservations were booked and we even had our itinerary planned. I guess nothing is ever for sure. We are both a little bummed, but luckily we were able to get a flight voucher for the amount of our tickets to use anytime within the next year. As far as the rest of the plans my husbands two brothers and their wives were going too and yes, they are there right now. They promised to have a great time, eat some fresh pineapple, and get some good old sunshine while relaxing on the beach for us. My husband taught me a great lesson during the first few years of our marriage. We used to live about three and a half hours south of where we grew up (and where our families still lived), so we would travel back and forth often. The road in between was often times bogged down with traffic and since it was out in the middle of no where there was no other way to get home unless we stayed on the freeway. I used to get extremely irritated with getting stuck on the freeway with no possibility to get off for miles and no other roads to take to get around. My husband would ask me, why are you so upset? Is there anything you can do about the traffic? Can you change the situation in anyway? Of course my answer was no, so he would then say, don't get so worked up about it, it will only make you more miserable, just make the best of the situation. It took me some practice, but I finally figured out ways to pass the time that we were stuck on the freeway. It made the situation more bearable. Now, we could be pretty upset about missing out on our trip, but instead this is what we have decided to do to make the best of this situation: my husband bought everything he needed to make us special tropical smoothies (including a slice of fresh pineapple hanging of the top of the cup), this week we are having pulled pork for dinner and we are trying to talk our kids into performing the "hooki lau" (Hawaiian song and dance) for us after we eat, and I think we might even pull out the tanning lotion just so we can fake the suntan at the beach. We would rather be in Hawaii than at the hospital doing our next round of chemo, but....... We will make the best of it. We promised each other that once we are through all of this with our baby and her treatments we are going to take our trip to Hawaii.

Hawaii will always be there, guaranteed! Rent a couple of the old movies like Gidget goes Hawaiian, or an Elvis Presley movie, sip on those Hawaiian smoothies and your whole family can enjoy Hawaii together! Even better, your parents will be back to watch the kids when you go and you can enjoy your 11th Anniversary there! Just think you will have something to look forward to next year & your tickets are already paid for! I think it is so neat how creative and cute Mike is! Way to go Mike! Larry is always the creative one here too.

I was so upset when I heard about your baby girl yesterday in Primary. She is about the same age as my little granddaughter. I immedicately bonded with her when I held her at the Primary Christmas Party last year. May the Lord bless you and your family during this difficult time and may your little baby girl get well. Our thoughts and prayers are. John and Brenda Deems

Hawaii is over-rated. JK. But I don't think it is going anywhere. You can just come with us when we go in April. Enjoy your fresh pineapple and smoothies. Go to Costco and buy some chocolate covered macadamia nuts as well and you will have Hawaii in your living room!

As they say, there is a time and a season for everything. I'm sorry you are missing your trip, but your attitudes are amazing. Each and every day I get more respect for the 2 of you. Mike does have a great attitude and outlook on life and very creative. I hope you enjoy the smoothies.

I love the story about the hair and the picture is so so cute!

Love Emily

Oh I am sorry. When it rains it pours AHHH!
That is so cute and thoughtful of Mike, the whole Hawaii at home. If you want I can have Heidi send you something from Kaui...She would be more than happy.
Just think this can be your huge party to look forward to after this storm. Hang in there. You are still in our prayers...

Mike, Sarah, and family. I believe you guys are doing the best rain dances! You guys are certainly a pillar of strength to so many of us. Our faith and love for our saviour has grown over the past month as we see you blazing through this firey trial. Thank you for sharing your tender thoughts and for loving each other and your children. The Lord must love you so much as he sees you care and love each other the way He would want you to. I think the saying "I NEVER SAID IT WOULD BE EASY" is applicable to you guys right now. We love you and we are glad that we can come and spend time with your sweet little family. Love ya, Aunt Maridee and Uncle Dennis
