We Made It

We made it through treatment number three. We are so happy to be home with our whole family again. She did really pretty good with the rest of her treatments. The new Chemo Med Etopophos seemed to agree with her system and she didn't react negatively (other than those that are common - low blood pressure, nausea). She was so cute at the hospital. She wins the hearts of every nurse, doctor, tech, house keeping, everyone that meets her. We decided to get her out of her room today before we went home, so we put on her darling little hat matching bracelet and little slippers and left the room. As we were walking she kept saying hi and waving to everyone that she saw in the ICS unit. She thought she was just the cutest little thing and it was hard to disagree with her. Everyone in the halls new she was coming because they could hear the other staffers gooing over her. We could hear the nurses saying "oh, Alyssa must be coming down the hall". She really is darling. This picture is a recreation, but you get the idea. She is very smart too. One of the nurses was changing the tubing for her IV line and the end cap on her Boroviac tube was exposed. She took one of the empty saline syringes and tried to attach it to the cap on her line. It shouldn't surprise me, that she knows what is going on. This is her life right now, she sees it all of the time. I guess I just didn't realize that she was paying such close attention. Another thing she did while we were at the hospital was that she got a hold of her throw up bowl and put it up to her mouth and started making throwing up noises into it (smart, but pretty sad that she knows what the pink kidney bean shaped bowl is for). All in all, she really seems to be doing quite well with her treatments (other than our few set backs). We found out that we may be up at the Children's hospital over Christmas if she has any set backs or if her blood counts are not up, so we are praying that she does remarkable over the next couple of weeks so that we don't have to spend Christmas at the hospital!

She is quite the little trooper! I think she has inherited her optimistic attitude from her mom and dad. I bet your other little ones are glad to have you back together again. I'm so proud of them for their ability to adjust to your new "normal". Happy Holidays! We are praying that Alyssa does well after this last round of chemo. Love ya, Julie

She is so adorable! When I worked in the pediatric clinic in Cedar we had a little cancer patient whom I got very close to. She and her family touched my life and taught me more in those few months than I could ever imagine. I can see that your sweet one is doing the same thing to those she is around! We love you guys and our prayers are continually with you!

Was great talking to you. So grateful that #3 is behind you. I can imagine why she steals the show! That smile and her eyes are out of this world! What an angel! We do have angels among us and she is one of those sent here to teach us how to love! We love you all very much!

She is absolutely darling! I love her big smile and dimples. If that isn't even to get you through the day, I don't know what can! But yes, they are little sponges and know what is going on around them. We hope and pray that you can be at home for Christmas! Hopefully we will see you Saturday night!

What a little trooper. Your stories are so touching to hear. I so hope Alyssa stays healthy through these next few weeks. I want to know your family is together during Christmas as they should be. We continue to pray for her. Kambree always asks how she is doing and especially prays for her. She always says she is thankful for Alyssa. She is a doll. Where did the kids go during this round? If I can ever help--even if it making arrangements for my own kids, I will. Please call anytime. Mary

I hope with all my heart that you will be able to spend Christmas at home, and am sad for anyone who spends Christmas at the hospital. I can't believe about her allergic reaction on your previous post...I wouldn't have thought twice about her "falling asleep" either...I'm glad she made it through round three. She is such a cutie!!!

Hi. My name is Jennifer. My dad knows and loves your family. He told me about your site.

Your daughter is adorable. I'm so sorry that you all have to go through this. It really stinks doesn't it?

My son was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma this summer. So I understand the shock and the resistance to shift into the life of a chemo patient.

An unfamiliar path. You said it so well. I pray for you and your family on this journey.
